With unpredictable weather, the “Festival de Montgolfieres de Gatineau” (FMG) needed to look at providing something to bring in the crowds and keep them entertained in between the early morning launch and the subsequent launch which typically occurs after 6:00 PM, when the winds tend to settle down.
The task is overwhelming, considering the number of persons required to support operations that run from 6:00 AM right up to midnight. Volunteers play a key role in making this event a success, in addition to the various trade persons, vendors, and entertainers required to keep the patrons secure, informed, and entertained.
It can be difficult to manage all aspects of the operation while maintaining good Customer relations but somehow, the festival has found a good balance, meeting their objectives while keeping everyone happy. Vendors have responded by providing great service at a reasonable price. Entertainers have also stepped up, providing a variety of options to keep both young and old entertained. The best part is that the majority of activities are available as part of the daily ticket/ weekend pass purchase!
The FMG is located minutes away from downtown Ottawa and definitely worth a visit. The festival will be back on Labour Day weekend 2014.
