The Hamilton Cardinals rallied to take the third game of the weekend/Monday series two games to one.
The first game played on Saturday evening was a close affair with Hamilton starting pitcher Tim Black going six and two thirds innings and giving up just one hit for the 4-2 win. Ottawa’s Brandon Huffman pitched well through seven, giving up just four hits, but took the loss. Hamilton scored three in third with two runs coming in on Anthony Rizquez’ clutch single and the Cardinals were able to hang on for the opening game win.
Game two on Sunday afternoon was a totally different story, as the Fat Cats bats exploded with 14 hits to secure a big 13-1 win. Wade Wilson was Ottawa’s star slugger driving in five runs with two doubles. Ottawa starter William Sebastien scattered six hits through five innings for the win and Cardinals unfortunate starter Brett van Pelt gave up five hits in just three innings to take the loss.
The deciding game was played on Monday afternoon with the Ottawa Fat Cats hosting several school classes that joined in on the action. The game looked like it was going to be another one sided affair, as the Fat Cats led 6-1 through seven innings. But the roof fell in. in the eighth, as the Cardinals racked up five big runs to tie the score 6-6. The game would remain tied into extra innings when finally the Cardinals scored in the thirteenth on Chris Redfern’s single to center field scoring Tim Black from third. Cardinals reliever Zach Pearson was the winning pitcher, with Fat Cats’ Josh Soffer taking the tough loss.
