James “Super Chikan” Johnson played the Black Sheep stage last night at Bluesfest. Johnson was a long haul trucker in his earlier years, but after a few close friends heard some of his songs they immediately convinced him to head into a recording studio. And the rest was history…
The “Super Chikan” came on stage around 9:15 with a Guitar shaped as a classic 60’s car. He played it with such emotion and love for the music you could feel the rhythm inside you. While he was burning up the guitar on one of the last songs of the night he actually used his tongue to strum his guitar and the crowd went crazy, there was a little reminder of Jimmy Hendrix there. Johnson ended the night off with an encore performance of a classic blues song done by many other blues singers before him .
