In a Victoria Day thriller the Kitchener Panthers held on to defeat the Ottawa Fat Cats 12-11 in twelve innings. Kitchener jumped out to a big 8-0 lead after scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth. The game looked to be well and truly over when the Fat Cats came to bat in the bottom of the ninth trailing 9-3, but an amazing six run rally tied the game at 9-9 and sent it to extra innings. The Panthers broke through again in the top of the twelfth and scored three runs to take a 12-9 lead. The Fat Cats did not give up though and manged to put two runners across before their rally fell short and they lost 12-11. Duckett, Kangas and Murray led the Panthers with three hits each with Murray driving in two big runs in the top of the twelfth. Relief pitcher Derek Sinko got the win, with Brett Sabourin taking the loss for the Fat Cats.
On Sunday, the Kitchener Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two and a half innings, before the Fat Cats got rolling and scored a pair in the bottom of the third. But the lead was too much to overcome and the Panthers went on to win 6-4. Darnell Duckett led the Panthers attack, going 3 for 5 and Ben Kangas also had a good game with the bat going 2 for 5. Ottawa’s bet batter Cody Mombourquette went 3 for 4 in a losing cause. Kitchener pitcher David Huscko scattered eight hits for the win. Ottawa pitcher M. Major lasted only two and two thirds innings giving up five runs on five hits, and took the loss.
Game 1 on Saturday night, had been a decisive win for the Fat Cats when they won over the Panthers 7-0.
