Skrillex (Sonny John Moore) is a twenty-four year old electronic music producer and singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California who was the main stage headliner for Saturday nights Bluesfest.
He is on a cross Canada tour called “The Full Flex Express”. The six stop tour begins July 13 in Toronto and wraps up July 22 in Vancouver. The tour also features Diplo, Grimes, Pretty Lights, KOAN Sound and Tokimonsta.
According to a press release, the Full Flex Express was partly inspired by the 1970 Festival Express tour, which saw The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band and others traveling across Canada by rail, visiting many of the same cities.
With the headliner set to go on at 9:30, the crowd waited with anxious anticipation for what they were about to see and hear. The lights went dim and the crowd screamed as Skrillex made his way into his “DJ booth”, which actually looked like some kind of alien space craft that rose high into the air above the crowd.
Skrillex played many of his biggest hits including “Breaking A Sweat”, “Bangarang” and “Roughneck Bass”, which got everyone in the crowd jumping and “Fist Pumping” to the extreme beat and bass. I was told by a friend that the music and light show could be seen and heard clearly in Gatineau, Quebec.
The collaboration between the sound and laser-light show was phenomenal and was definitely number one in the two week Bluesfest festival. For every beat that pumped from the speakers, there was a light or laser pulsing to match it.
With the amazing turnout and all of the positive reviews Skrillex has received, I am sure this will not be the last time he will be taking the stage at Bluesfest
