Snoop Dogg takes over Bluesfest

By Ryan Arbuckle

The main stage headliner for Tuesday nights Bluesfest needs no introduction. This man is one of the biggest icons in the Rap/Hip-Hop game: Snoop Dogg.
Snoop came into the rap scene in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr Dre. His debut record,  “Doggystyle”, was released in 1993 under Death Row Records which quickly skyrocketed to No. 1 on the billboard charts. His biggest hits that he has been known for are “What’s my Name” and “Gin and Juice”.
The show was scheduled to start at 9:30 PM. Forty minutes later after listening to Lauren Hill continue her set, Snoops DJ took center stage and got the crowd bouncing to the beat before the man himself appeared out of a cloud of smoke.
He was joined on stage by two scantily clad backup dancers that actually gave him a lap dance during the show, as well as a few other rappers that backed him up in the majority of the songs preformed. At one point during the show, he serenaded a bunch of girls in the front row with “Sensual Seduction”, then invited them to dance for him up on stage. It’s clear that Snoop has a real passion for his art and it showed not just in Tuesday’s live show (which over the course of fifty minutes was not only consistently entertaining but musically solid) but also in his recent output.
From the time Snoop Dogg took the stage till the end of concert, there was a billowing cloud of smoke pouring out of the crowd that looked like a wheat field on fire.
Everyone was flowing with the beat as he finished the show with his latest single “Young and Free” with Wiz Khalifa. However, due to the Ottawa bi-laws, Snoop had to cut his show short and leave the stage at exactly eleven PM or there would have been major fines laid, up to $20,000, per minute for any music played after eleven.
