The Midwest division’s 5th ranked team was in Ottawa for an afternoon game against the 67’s.
The 67’s Tyler Hill took a penalty for holding the puck early in the first, giving the Rangers an opportunity, which they could not capitalize on.
The 67s were the first to score with a shot from the point by Alex Lintuniemi (40) at 9:10 in the first. His first OHL goal.
The 67s didn’t let up with a shot from the slot by Brett Gustavsen (25) getting past Matthew Greenfield (31) at 13:16.
The 67’s struggled to take advantage of a power play in the second, with the Rangers applying pressure to keep them out of the attacking zone.
A quick pass in front of the net from Darby Llewellyn (27) was tipped by Nick Maygar (20) to put the Rangers on the scoreboard. It only took a few more minutes to tie the game with a shot from Justin Bailey (95).
Despite a solid effort to capitalize on two additional power play opportunity, the 67’s could not score against Greenfield’s net-minding prowess.
With 24 shots on goal, the Rangers took the lead with a goal by Brent Pedersen (16). At the end of the second, the shots on goal were 15-28 for the Rangers.
The third period started wih a strong offense from the Rangers with 8 shot on goal in the first 5 minutes. By the time all was said and done, the shots on goal was talied at 23 for Ottawa, against the Rangers’ 46.
With 57 seconds left in the game the 67s pull their goalie and score the tying goal and regain some momentum.
It looked like this game was to be decided in overtime. With the four on four lineup, the two teams are balanced and keep moving the puck from end of the ice to the other. A few more saves from Phulippe Trudeau, helps to keep the 67’s in the game. With no goal scored, the win went to a shootout where the Rangers prevailed with a shot by right winger Justin Bailey (95).
In the end, the Rangers’ win does not take them out of 5th place in their division but it is one more win in the slow climb out of last place.
