The Ottawa 67s meet the Barrie Colts for the final home game of the regular season. It was a fitting match-up as both are competing for the last playoff position. With only two road games after this one, there not much time left, and the season could come to an end real soon…

The 67s are playing without 6 players including Erik Bradford (33) who fractured his femur in the team’s match agains the Kingston Frontenacs earlier this week. Troy Henley (3) and Ryan Van Stralen (8) were also ejected from the same game for instigating.

Nevin Guy (21) got the 67s on the scoreboard with a drive to the net following a pass from Brett Gustavsen (25). A second goal less that 2 minutes later by Brendan Bell (27) should have put the team is a favorable position but a tripping penalty for Taylor Fielding (36) allowed the colts to capitalize on the power play with a goal by Jake Dotchin (4).

Confusion getting out of the penalty box by Jacob Middleton enabled Barrie’s Andreas Athanasiou (22) to tie the game. The momentum shift following this goal  produced another goal and the lead for the Colts less than two minutes later on a shot from NHL draft prospect Aaron Ekblad (5).

The 67s retaliated with 45 seconds left in the second, to bring the game back to a tie on a goal by Nevin Guy (24).

Heading into the third, the 67s and Colts are back to a one goal game.

There was a bit of a scare watching Ottawa rookie Travis Koneccny (17) running into the boards in the same place where Bradford crashed two days ago and fractured his leg.

Halfway into the third, the 67s were provided with good scoring opportunities due to a series of penalties including a debatable 2 minute minor when Barrie’s Liam Maaskant (2) slammed Dante Salituro (26) head first into the boards, providing the 67s with a 5 on 3 advantage. The Colts killed off the 2 man advantage and came back to score on a wrister from Mitchell Theoret (23).

The Colts held off the 67’s to take the win; the final score was 5-3 following an empty net goal by Brendan Lemieux (21) with 11 seconds left in the third..

The 67s playoff run has taken a step back; while not eliminated, their battle has become that much harder….
