British rock icon Peter Gabriel’s 1986 album So was a landmark in many ways. His fifth studio album, it was the first to be given a proper name (Gabriel famously refused to title his first four studio albums, and they are distinguished from one another only by their cover art). It was his first studio album with Canadian musician and producer Daniel Lanois (not including the Birdy soundtrack album from the previous year). So also yielded his biggest hit songs, including the chart-topping “Sledgehammer” (his first and to-date only #1 US single). The album also features “Don’t Give Up,” a duet with fellow English musician Kate Bush and “In Your Eyes,” a song made famous in an iconic scene featuring a young John Cusack and a boom box in the 1989 Cameron Crowe film Say Anything.
Now, a quarter-century after its release, Gabriel is embarking on a 13-city North American tour, reuniting with many of the musicians from the 1987 tour supporting that album (expect, likely, to see stalwart longtime collaborators David Rhodes and Tony Levin returning). The Back to Front tour, with Canadian dates in Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto, will feature Peter Gabriel and his band playing all nine songs from So, in addition to other selections from his long and storied career.
The Back to Front tour kicks off on September 16th at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, followed by concerts on September 18th at Montreal’s Bell Centre, and September 19th at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. Tickets are available from:
